Welcome! If you want to land your first remote job, follow these steps in order.
Remote job hunting feels overwhelming because there’s so much advice and no clear path. This page is your path. Work through it one step at a time.
- Decide what kind of remote work you want. Customer support, virtual assistance, writing, design, data entry, tech support and social media are common entry points. Pick one or two to focus on.
- Learn to spot remote job scams. Real employers never ask you to pay to apply or buy equipment upfront. Know the red flags before you start applying.
- Build a remote-ready resume. Highlight self-management, communication and any tools you know, like Google Workspace, Slack or Canva.
- Find the right job boards. General job sites bury remote roles. Use remote-focused boards and company career pages instead.
- Apply smart, not just more. Tailor every application, write a short cover letter and track where you’ve applied.
- Prepare for the video interview. Test your camera and internet, prepare your answers and research the company.
Not sure where to begin?
Start with step 1. Most people skip it and apply to everything, which leads to burnout and generic applications. Knowing your target role makes every other step easier.
